Khulna division sees record 1,322 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

Khulna division has recorded the highest 1,322 Covid-19 cases in a day, since the pandemic broke out in the country last year.

The division also witnessed 23 deaths in the last 24 hours until 8am on Friday.

Dr Rasheda Sultana, the divisional director of health, confirmed the latest data, which took the division's total caseload to 50,117 and death toll to 939.

The division had detected its first Covid-19 case in Chuadanga district on March 19 last year.

Of the total Covid cases, the highest 14,161 were from Khulna district, 10,720 from Jessore, 6,912 from Kushtia, 3,890 from Jhenaidah, 3,177 from Satkhira, 2,953 from Chuadanga, 2,867 from Bagerhat, 2,461 from Narail, 1,540 from Meherpur, and 1,436 from Magura.

Of the total deaths, the highest 233 were from Khulna district, 180 from Kushtia, 124 from Jessore, 82 from Chuadanga, 80 from Jhenaidah, 74 from Bagerhat, 66 from Satkhira, 39 from Meherpur, 36 from Narail, and 25 from Magura.

As many as 35,922 patients have recovered so far across the division while some 682 patients are still undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the surge in cases and deaths, local administration imposed stricter restrictions on public movement in Khulna, Satkhira, Narail, Kushtia, and Bagerhat districts.
