Seventeen people -- eight male and nine female -- died at the Covid unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in 24 hours till this morning.
Of the deceased, eight were Covid-19 positive while nine had symptoms, RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani confirmed.
Nine of them were from Rajshahi, four from Chapainawabganj, two each from Naogaon and Natore, the RMCH director confirmed.
Of them, five were above 60 years old, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting the RMCH director.
Fifty-two patients were admitted to the Covid unit of the hospital during the period. Of them, 31 are from Rajshahi, eight from Chapainawabganj, six from Natore, four from Pabna and three from Naogaon.
A total of 423 patients are now undergoing treatment at the Covid unit of the hospital.
During 24 hours, 188 samples were tested at RMCH lab through RT-PCR and 49 of them came positive while 313 were tested at Rajshahi Medical College lab and 113 of them were Covid-19 positive.
The current positivity rate in Rajshahi is 34.05 percent.
