Covid-19 kills 77 more in Bangladesh

Covid-19 claimed 77 more lives and infected 4,334 others in Bangladesh in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Saturday.

The test positivity rate after testing 19,262 samples during the reporting period was 22.50 per cent.

The latest figures took the overall number of Covid deaths ever since the viral disease emerged over a year ago to 14,053 and infections to 8,83,138 in the country.

The daily Covid situation update by the Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics.

A total of 19,262 samples were tested during the reporting period in 554 labs in the country during the time. Bangladesh had tested a total of 64,82,381 samples as of June 26.

Among the 77 deceased, 48 were males and 29 female patients.

The government statistics said that 65 of the deceased died at public hospitals, seven at private ones, four at their homes and one brought dead to a hospital.

A total of 3,295 people recovered from the viral disease totalling the number to 8,00,854.

The daily update shows that 38 of the deceased were aged above 60 years, 17 aged between 51 and 60 years, 13 between 41 and 50 years, five between 31 and 40 years, three between 21 to 30 years and one aged between 11 to 20 years.

Bangladesh officially announced the presence of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020 while recorded the first death on March 18, 2020.

Besides the deaths of Covid positive patients, a good number of people having symptoms of Covid infection died at the Covid units of hospitals at places of the country.

Our correspondents in Khulna, Rajshahi and Satkhira, quoting government officials, reported that a total of 37 patients died in the Covid units of hospitals in Khulna, Rajshahi and Satkhira districts in 24 hours till Saturday morning.

Of them, 11 died in three hospitals in Khulna, 17 died in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, and nine died in Satkhira Medical College Hospital, the correspondents reported.

Of the 37 deceased, 19 were Covid positive patients and the remaining 18 died with symptoms of Covid-19 infection.
