303 die at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital's Covid unit in 27 days

Ten people -- seven male and three female -- died at the Covid unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in 24 hours till this morning.

Of the deceased, one was Covid-19 positive, one negative and eight died with symptoms, RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani confirmed to The Daily Star.

Four of them were from Rajshahi, Four from Natore and two were from Chapainawabganj, the RMCH director confirmed.

With this, 303 people died at the hospital's Covid unit during the current month till today. Of them, 147 tested positive for coronavirus.

This is the highest death toll from coronavirus in a month at RMCH, the director said.

A total of 24 people died with coronavirus and symptoms in May, he added.

Among the deceased this month, five were above 60 years old, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting the RMCH director.

Fifty-five patients were admitted to the Covid unit of the hospital during the period. Of them, 37 are from Rajshahi. Four are from Chapainawabganj, five from Natore, two from Naogaon, six from Pabna and one from Dinajpur.

During 24 hours, 188 samples were tested at RMCH lab through RT-PCR and 49 of them came positive while 373 were tested at Rajshahi Medical College lab and 85 of them were Covid-19 positive.

The current positivity rate in Rajshahi is 29.08 percent, which was 34.05 percent in the previous 24 hours.
