Bangladesh logs highest 119 daily Covid deaths

Bangladesh logged the highest ever 119 daily Covid deaths in the past 24 hours until Sunday 8:00am.

The infections were 5,268 during the timeline.

The latest tally took the death toll from the viral disease to 14,172 and cases to 888,406.

The daily Covid situation update by the Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics.

A total of 24,400 samples have been tested during the reporting period. Bangladesh had tested a total of 65,06,781 samples as of June 27.

Among the deceased, 75 are male and 44 female patients.

Ninety nine of them died at public hospitals, 14 at private ones, four at their homes and two were brought dead to hospitals, according to the government statistics.

A total of 3,249 people recovered from the viral disease totalling the number to 804,103.

The daily update shows that 59 of the deceased were aged above 60 years, 34 aged between 51 and 60 years, 11 between 41 and 50 years, nine between 31 and 40 years and six aged between 21 to 30 years.

Bangladesh officially announced the presence of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020 while recorded the first death on March 18, 2020.

Our Correspondents reports that a total of 35 patients, mostly having symptoms of coronavirus infection, died in the Covid units of hospitals in Khulna, Rajshahi and Satkhira districts in 24 hours ending Sunday morning.

Of them, 17 died in three hospitals in Khulna, 10 in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, and eight died in Satkhira Medical College Hospital, New Age correspondents in the districts, quoting officials of the hospitals, reported.

The government in a fresh order on Sunday suspended operations of all public transports, except goods-carrying vehicles and rickshaws, across Bangladesh from 6:00am on June 28 to 6:am on July 1 to contain the Covid outbreak.

The government and non-government offices would remain open ensuring presence of necessary people only on their own arrangements.

Health minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday said that the Army and BGB besides the police would be deployed to enforce a weeklong lockdown beginning on July 1 to contain Covid-19 outbreak in Bangladesh.

He said that the lockdown would be enforced on limited scale from Monday as the situation was turning worse.

He said at the secretariat that the Covid infection surge must be checked by ensuring health guidelines.
