Public transport to be suspended from Monday

The government has directed to suspend all types of public transport, except goods-laden vehicles and rickshaws, across the country from 8am tomorrow to 6am on Monday.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification today in this regard.

The notification also said shopping malls, markets, tourist spots, resorts, community centres and recreation venues will remain closed during the period.

Besides, all government and non-government organisations will ensure the presence of required number of employees through own management, it said.

Food shops and restaurants will offer online and take away services from 8am to 8pm.

More awareness is needed to ensure mask-wearing among people, and legal action will be taken if necessary, added the notification.

On Friday evening, Press Information Department (PID) issued a statement stating that the country will be put under a complete lockdown for seven days from Monday (tomorrow) to control the surge of coronavirus.

Within 24 hours of the decision, the government came up with a new announcement after holding a high-level meeting chaired by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. The countrywide complete lockdown will be enforced from July 1 (Thursday), not from Monday (June 28).

Today, the government imposed three-day restrictions before the countrywide complete lockdown.
