Moghbazar blast probably not a sabotage: IGP

Inspector general of Police Benazir Ahmed on Monday said that primarily they were not suspecting the explosion at Moghbazar as a subversive act.

He made the statement while briefing reporters after visiting the spot on in the morning.

However, the police would initiate an investigation with bomb disposal unit, he added.

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company managing director Ali Iqbal Md Nurullah on Monday said that they did not have any gas supply line in the affected area of Moghbazar.

He said that primarily it was suspected that an LPG cylinder blast might have caused the accident.

Meanwhile, the fire service formed a five-member probe committee, headed by director (operation and maintenance) Lieutenant Colonel Zillur Rahman.

At least seven people were killed and several hundred were injured in a massive explosion in a three-storey building at Moghbazar in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka Sunday evening.

‘Seven people died so far and 50 others were admitted to different hospitals in the city with injuries caused by the explosion,’ said Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam after visiting the spot in the late evening.
