74 more die at Covid units in 7 districts

A total of 74 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in seven districts in 24 hours ending Tuesday morning.

The districts are Rajshahi, Khulna, Satkhira, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah and Chattogram and, of the deceased, 34 were Covid positive patients and remaining 40 died with symptoms of Covid infection.

Of the deceased, 25 died in Rajshahi, 12 in Khulna, four in Satkhira, nine in Kushtia, 13 in Chuadanga, eight in Jhenaidah and three died in Chattogram.

Rajshshi Medical College Hospital director Brigadier Shameem Yazdany, reported that 25 patients — nine Covid positive and the remaining ones having symptoms — died at the Covid units of the hospital in the past 24 hours.

This is the highest number of deaths in RMCH in a single day since Covid outbreak, the hospital director said.

He said that twelve of the deceased were from Rajshahi district while five each from the boarding Chapainawabganj district and Natore district, and two from Naogoan and the rest one from Chuadanga district.

Brigadier Shameem Yazdany said that 70 new patients were admitted to the hospital’s Covid units in the past 24 hours while a total of 459 patients were taking treatment at the units, having 405 beds.

He also said that 207 samples out of 634 were tested positive for Covid-19 in the two labs of the hospital and Rajshahi Medical College in the past 24 hours.

In Khulna, four Covid positive patients and one having symptoms of Covid infection died at the Covid Dedicated Hospital, operated by Khulna Medical College Hospital, during the time, the hospital’s resident medical officer Suhas Chandra Halder.

Four more Covid positive patients died in Gazi Medical College Hospital, said the hospital’s chairman Gazi Mizanur Rahman.

Three other Covid positive patients died at Khulna General Hospital, said that statistics department of the Civil Surgeon’s office in Khulna.

SMCH superintendent Dr Kudrat-e-Khuda, reported that a total of four patients, all having symptoms of Covid infection, died in the Covid units of Satkhira Medical College Hospital during the time.

The district civil surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, reported that a total of three Covid positive patients died at hospitals in Chattogram in past 24 hours.

Kushtia reported that a total of 30 patients died at Covid units of different hospitals in Kushtia, Jhenaidah and Chuadanga.

Kushtia civil surgeon Tapos Kumar Sarkar said that a total of nine patients – four Covid positive and five having symptoms in the past 24 hours.

During the same time, 13 patients — four Covid positive and nine having symptoms — died in Chguadanga district, said the district civil surgeon ASM Maruf.

Besides, three Covid positive patients and five others having symptoms died in Jhenaidah district died in Jhenaidah in 24 hours ending Tuesday 8:00am, the district civil surgeon Selina Begum said.
