Amid the worsening Covid-19 situation in the Khulna, the division in a 24-hour span till Thursday morning registered its highest-ever Covid-19 fatalities with 35 new deaths, taking the total death toll to 1,105.
Besides, 1,245 people were found infected with the deadly virus during the 24-hour period, taking the total tally to 57,520 in 10 districts of the Khulna division.
Of the new fatalities, there were seven each from Jessore and Kushtia, four each in Khulna, Jhenaidah and Satkhira, three each in Narail and Meherpur, two in Chuadanga and one in Bagerhat, said Dr Rasheda Sultana, divisional director of Health.
As many as 38,930 patients have recovered so far across the division.
Meanwhile, the district has gone into a strict Covid-19 lockdown, along with the rest of Bangladesh, with the army and police ordered to stop people from leaving their homes except for emergencies or to buy essentials.
The bordering division had detected its first Covid-19 case in Chuadanga district on March 19 last year.
