Bangladesh logs highest 143 Covid deaths in 24 hours

Bangladesh logged the highest 143 Covid deaths in a single day in the past 24 hours until 8:00am on Thursday.

Covid-19 also infected 8,301 new people in the timeline.

With the latest tally, the death toll hits 14,646 and infections 921,559 while the test positivity rate for the past 24 hours increased to 25.9. The rate was 25.13 per cent on Wednesday.

The daily Covid situation update by the Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics.

Bangladesh has been logging more than hundred daily deaths and higher number of infections from the viral disease for the past few days.

Amid the increasing trend of Covid deaths and infections, the government imposed weeklong strict restrictions from Thursday 6:00am shutting down all business activities and offices till July 7 to contain the spread of Covid deaths and infection.

A total of 32,055 samples have been tested during the 24 hour reporting period across the country while Bangladesh had tested a total of 66,40,982 samples as of July 1.

Among the deceased reported on Thursday, 90 were male and 53 were female patients.

One hundred and nine of them died at public hospitals, 23 at private ones and 11 died at their homes, said the government statistics.

Of the total deceased, the highest 46 people died in Khulna division followed by 35 in Dhaka, 19 in Rajshahi, 15 in Chattogram, 10 in Rangpur, eight in Barishal, seven in Sylhet and three in Mymensingh division.

The highest rate of infections was 40.78 per cent in Rangpur division, 37.63 per cent in Khulna, 29 per cent in Sylhet, 28.4 per cent in Barishal, 27 per cent in Mymensingh, 24.42 per cent in Chattogram, 24 per cent in Rajshahi and 22.85 per cent in Dhaka division.

A total of 4,663 people recovered from the viral disease till Thursday morning totalling the number to 820,913.

The daily update shows that 70 of the deceased were aged above 60 years, 42 aged between 51 and 60 years, 18 between 41 and 50 years, 11 between 31 and 40 years and two aged between 0 and 20 years.

Meanwhile, 88 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in eight districts in Bangladesh in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
