At least five people were killed and five others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Bangabandhu Bridge highway at Hateya point of Kalihati upazila in Tangail on Saturday morning.
Identities of the deceases could not be known immediately.
Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station inspector (investigation) Saydul Islam said that the accident took the place at about 7:30am when a North Bengal-bound ambulance collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound fish laden pick-up van.
The accident left three people dead on the spot and seven others injured, he said, adding that the injured were rushed to Tangail General Hospiutal where two more people died.
The police officer said that both the vehicles were badly damaged and the police removed the vehicles from the highway by 10:00pm.
