More vehicles, people on Dhaka streets on 3rd day of ‘strict lockdown’

Number of vehicles increased on Dhaka streets on the third day of the "strict lockdown" compared to the previous days.

A good number of rickshaws, private cars and motorcycles were seen on the road including in Mohammadpur, Panthapath, Dhanmondi and Farmgate areas.

People were seen gathering at Mohammadpur Town Hall and Karwan Bazar kitchen markets. More people were also seen on neighbourhood lanes instead of the main roads during the "strict lockdown".

Army, police and Border Guard Bangladesh were seen at some important points in Dhaka. They were seen stopping vehicles at Karwan Bazar, Dhanmondi, Shukrabad, Shyamoli and Shahbagh -- setting up check posts.

Passengers who were able to provide justified reasons for coming out were allowed to go and those who failed were sued or fined for violating the "strict lockdown" rules.

While visiting Shahbagh, our photojournalist Palash Khan saw army and police setting up four separate check posts at the entrances of the intersection. They stopped each and every vehicle that were crossing the roads and were questioning passengers.

While visiting Dhaka-Aricha highway and Savar, our photojournalists found RMG workers, mostly walking in groups, going to their work places.

Those who live far from their factories were either in buses designated for carrying them or in battery-run auto-rickshaws.

Many of them were seen without masks and not maintaining distancing. They also crammed into vehicles as there were shortage of transport on the roads due to the "strict lockdown" the government enforced from Thursday, amid rising cases of Covid-19.
