Four security guards burnt in Narayanganj paper mill gas explosion

Four security guards of a private paper mill in Kanchpur under Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj sustained burn injuries in a fire from explosion due to gas line leakage early Monday.

The injured ones — Mustak Ahmed, 42, Assaduzzaman, 32, Md Faruk, 45, and Tofizul, 50 — are now undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Of them Mustak received burn injuries on 78 per cent of his body, Assaduzzaman on 75 per cent, Faruk 5 per cent and Tofizul received 68 per cent burns on his body, the institute’s resident surgeon SM Ayub Hossain said.

The victims’ relatives and colleagues at the institute said that they received burn injuries as a gas line exploded in front of the main gate of Kanchpur’s Al Noor Paper and Board Mills Limited under Sonargaon upazila in the wee hours of Monday.

The injured ones were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at about 2:00am, the institute officials said.
