TCB begins OMS of essentials, long queue at sales points

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh on Monday began a nationwide open market sale of essential commodities at subsidised price in a bid to keep the prices of essential items stable on the market amid the Covid outbreak and ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

visiting different spots at Rampura, Khilgaon, Shahajahanpur, Sabujbagh, Motijheel and Mirpur in Dhaka, reported that a good number of people were waiting in queues from 9:00am to buy the TCB goods though the trucks came much later.

Abdul Gafur, a resident of Shahajahanpur who had been waiting in a queue at Uttar Shahajanhanpur, told that he had been waiting there for over an hour to buy goods to save money during the lockdown when they had no work.

Gafur is a day labourer by profession.

The TCB on Sunday announced that the state-run enterprise would sell three commodities, including sugar, red lentil and soya bean oil, at subsidised rates throughout the country, including Dhaka and other metropolitan cities district and upazila towns, from Monday.

Under the open market sale programme, a total of 450 mobile trucks are scheduled to sell the TCB products across the country till July 29.

Each truck is selling around 500-800 kilograms of sugar, 300-600 kg of red lentil and 800-1200 litres of soya bean oil each day.

The TCB is selling sugar at Tk 55 per kg, lentil at Tk 55 per kg and soya bean oil at Tk 100 per litre.
