Bangladesh logs highest 164 Covid deaths, 9,964 infections

Bangladesh logged the highest daily Covid deaths and infections of 164 and 9,964, respectively, in the past 24 hours until Monday morning amid the on-going restrictions on public movement imposed by the government to contain the viral disease.

Monday was the fifth day of the on-going strict restrictions.

On Sunday, the country had logged 153 daily Covid deaths that was a record high until July 4.

The latest figures take the overall death caused by the viral disease to 15,229 and the total number of infections to 954,881 while the daily test positivity rate is 29.30 per cent.

Among the deceased, 109 are male and 55 female patients.

A Directorate General of Health Services release confirmed the statistics.

Deaths from Covid-19 and symptoms are also increasing in Rajshahi, Khulna, Satkhira, Kushtia, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Barishal and Chuadanga.

A total of 103 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the districts in the past 24 hours ending Monday morning.

Of them, over 50 per cent died with Covid symptoms, report our correspondents.

Of the deceased, 48 were Covid positive patients and remaining 54 died with symptoms.
