People above 35 years of age brought under vaccination campaign

The government has widened the campaign of Covid vaccination bringing in people above 35 years of age and incorporating people of various categories under the coverage.

Expanded Programme on Immunisation of the Directorate General of Health Services issued directives in this regard on July 6 night.

Covid vaccination will be resumed across the country soon, the DGHS said without mentioning a specific date.

Relatively senior registrants depending on their age would get text messages for visiting the vaccination centres on a priority basis for receiving vaccine doses.

Irrespective of their age, freedom fighters, biranganas, elected representatives, officers of Bangladesh Secretariat, information ministry and judicial and administrative offices, Armed forces, Border Guard Bangladesh, Coast Guard, President Guard Regiment, members of the law enforcing agencies including police, anser, VDP, health workers in public hospitals, lawyers approved by the bar council, mass media people, municipality employees, religious leaders, people engaged in burying and cremation of dead bodies, staff of power, water supply, gas and sewerage services, people employed at river ports, rail stations and airports, staff engaged in essential services at the ministries and district and upazila offices, students at public and private medical colleges and health institutes, staff of the priority government projects, farmers and labourers would get vaccine on a priority basis subject to completing registrations.

Foreign-bound workers were also prioratised for vaccination subject to completing two-step registration with the BMET mechanism, including www.amiprobashi.com website, and Surokkha app.

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait-bound workers will get Pfizer vaccine in seven hospitals in Dhaka — Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Kurmitola General Hospital and Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital. Workers willing to go countries excluding Saudi Arabia will be able to get vaccine from any centre according to their choice.

Resident public university students will also get vaccines according to the lists of the University Grants Commission.

People above 55 years of age from among forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (Rohingyas) living in Bangladesh will also get vaccine.

People who earlier received text messages but could not receive the first dose, in spite of completing registration in the first phase of vaccination, will be able to get vaccine in this phase.

Vaccine centres will remain open from 8:00am to 3:00pm everyday except Friday and public holidays.

No one will be able to receive vaccine without registration with the Surokkha website.

The government decided to resume mass inoculation after getting consignments of 25 lakh Moderna and 20 lakh doses Verocell (Sinopharm) vaccine from the United States and China respectively.

Moderna vaccine would be administered at vaccination centres in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rongpur, Sylhet and Barisal cities.

Sinopharm’s Verocell vaccines would be administered at the district and upazila vaccination centres.

Covid vaccination was launched across Bangladesh on February 7 for people above 40 years of age and some special categories.
