Bangladesh logs highest daily Covid infection of 11,651

Bangladesh logged the highest daily Covid infections of 11,651 people and second highest death toll of 199 in 24 hours until Thursday morning.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 15,792 and infections to 989,289.

The case positivity rate across the country has also been climbing for the past few days and reached to 31.62 per cent on the day.

A Directorate General of Health Services release confirmed the statistics.

Among the deceased, 133 are male and 66 female patients.

A total of 36,850 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 605 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 68,66,682 samples as of July 8.

A total of 5,844 recovered from the viral disease during the timeline totalling the recovery to 856,346.

A total of 145 died in public hospitals, 42 in private hospitals and 12 died at their homes, according to the government statistics.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths of 65 people in the past 24 hours while the lowest Covid deaths of three persons were logged in Barishal.

Besides the death of Covid patients, reports received from Rajshahi, Khulna, Satkhira, Kushtia, Mymensingh, Jhenaidah, Chuadanga and Chattogram said that a good number of patients died with Covid symptoms at the Covid units in hospitals there.

A total of 108 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the districts in 24 hours ending Thursday morning.

Of them, 59 were Covid positive patients and 49 others had symptoms.

Amid the rising trend of Covid deaths and infections, the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday issued a set of directives, including increasing oxygen supply and beds in the hospitals across the country, to ensure proper treatment of Covid patients.

Bangladesh officially announced the presence of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020 while recorded the first death then day later on March 18, 2020.
