RMCH Covid unit records 18 more deaths

Eighteen more patients died at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the 24 hours to Friday morning.

However, the district's daily new Covid-19 cases has recorded a marginal decline, with 88 people testing positive for the disease in 24 hours — 8.41% less than a day before.

Hospital Director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani said three of the deceased had tested Covid-19 positive while the rest were showing symptoms consistent with the disease.

Of the deceased, 10 were from Rajshahi district, two each from Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Natore, and one each from Kushtia and Sirajganj.

"Eighty-eight people have tested Covid-19 positive at the hospital in the past 24 hours. A total of 479 samples were tested in two laboratories of the district during the period," the director said.

The 24-hour positivity rate on Friday stood at 18.16%, which was 26.57% a day before.

Shamim Yazdani also said 74 people were admitted to the Covid-19 unit of the hospital in the 24 hours. During the period, 52 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery.

Moreover, 501 people are currently undergoing treatment against 454 beds at the Covid-19 unit of the hospital. Of them, 20 patients are in the ICU.
