Bangladesh logs highest daily 212 Covid deaths

Bangladesh logged the highest daily death toll of 212 people and 11,324 new cases in 24 hours until Friday morning.

With the latest statistics, the death toll hits 16,004 and cases top 10,00,543.

A Directorate General of Health Services release confirmed the statistics.

Among the deceased, 119 are male and 93 female patients.

A total of 36,586 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 605 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 69,03,268 samples as of July 9.

A total of 6,038 recovered from the viral disease during the timeline totalling the recovery to 862,384.

A total of 160 died in public hospitals, 36 in private hospitals and 16 died at their homes, according to the government statistics.

Khulna division logged the highest Covid death 79 people during the timeline while the second highest was logged in Dhaka division.

Besides the death of Covid patients, reports received from Rajshahi, Khulna, Kushtia, Chattogram, Satkhira, Mymensingh, Jhenaidah, Chapainawabganj, Chuadanga and Barishal said that a good number of patients died with Covid symptoms at the Covid units in hospitals there.

A total of 133 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the districts in 24 hours ending Friday morning.

Of them, 75 were Covid positive patients and 58 others had symptoms.

Bangladesh officially announced the presence of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020 while recorded the first death then day later on March 18, 2020.
