Trains to resume Thursday for a week

Trains will resume operations across the country from Thursday, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon has said.

Trains would be allowed to carry only half their passenger capacity in each compartment between July 15 and July 22, the minister told Dhaka Tribune on Monday.

He also said tickets would only be available online from Tuesday and the remaining decisions would be taken according to the gazette notification.

The train services were suspended from July 1 amid the countrywide strict lockdown.

The decision to resume train services comes ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, which is scheduled to be celebrated on July 21.

The government has also announced an easing of the ongoing lockdown for the next one week, with public transport resuming on a limited scale and shopping malls and stores reopening as well.
