Rawhide price set at Tk 40-45/sq feet in Dhaka, Tk 33-37 outside Dhaka

Bangladesh government and the country’s leather sector businesses on Thursday set the prices for the rawhides of animals to be sacrificed during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, increasing by Tk 2-5 per foot than the prices of last year.

Commerce minister Tipu Munshi at a virtual meeting with the leather sector business leaders announced the prices of salted cowhide at Tk 40-45 a square foot in Dhaka and Tk 33-37 a square foot for outside Dhaka.

Last year, the price of cowhide had been set at Tk 35-40 a square foot in Dhaka and Tk 28-32 a square foot for outside Dhaka.

The prices of castrated-goat skin were announced at Tk 15-17 a square foot and the prices of goatskin were set at Tk 12-14 a square foot, up Tk 2 per square foot from the last year.

In 2020, the prices of castrated-goat skin had been set at Tk 13-15 a square foot with a 27-per cent decrease from the prices of 2019. The prices of goatskin had been set at Tk 10-12 a square foot, down 22 per cent from 2019.

Commerce secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Bangladesh Tanners Association chairman Md Shaheen Ahmed, Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh president Md Saiful Islam, Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather goods and Footwear Exporters Association president Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin and Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchants’ Association president Aftab Ahmed spoke at the meeting, among others.
