Bangladesh witnesses 226 more Covid deaths

Bangladesh witnessed 226 more Covid deaths and 12,236 new cases in 24 hours ending Thursday 8:00am.

As a result, the country logged 200-plus daily Covid deaths for the fifth consecutive day.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 17,278 and infections to 10,71,774.

A Directorate General of Health Services release confirmed the statistics.

The country reported so many cases and deaths on the day when the government relaxes strict restrictions on public movement and businesses for eight days from July 14 midnight for the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha and continuation of pre-Eid trade and economic activities.

In the 24-hour timeline, Dhaka division logged the highest number of Covid deaths of 74 people while 52 Covid patients died in Khulna division, 42 in Chattogram, 24 in Rajshshi, 13 in Rangpur, 10 in Mymensingh, six in Barishal and five other Covid patients died in Sylhet.

Among the total deceased, 140 are male and 86 are female patients.

A total of 44,941 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 627 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 77,44,420 samples as of July 15.

A total of 8,395 people recovered from the viral disease during the timeline totalling the number of recovered people to 9,05,807.

As a result, the country has now a total of 1,65,967 active Covid patients.

In the timeline, a total of 168 Covid patients died in public hospitals, 36 in private hospitals and 20 died at their homes, according to government statistics.

Besides death of Covid patients, reports received from different districts of the country said that a good number of patients had died with Covid symptoms at the Covid units in hospitals there.
