15km tailback on Dhaka-Bangabandhu bridge highway

A 15-kilometre tailback was created on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge highway on Friday morning causing immense sufferings to the home-bound people ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

Due to the tailback, the vegetable traders have become the worst sufferer to reach Dhaka to sell their vegetable from northern part of Bangladesh.

The tailback starts from Bangabandhu bridge east and reached Rasulpur area under Sadar upazila.

Inspector Yasir Arafat, in-charge of Elenga highway police outpost, said the huge rush of Dhaka-bound sacrificial animal laden trucks and North Bengal-bound buses and other transports were the main reason of the tailback on the highway.

He said that the North Bengal-bound lane was still clear but Dhaka-bound lane was full of cattle and goods and vegetable laden trucks causing the tailback on the highway.

Besides, the passengers and drivers of the long-route vehicles blamed the sacrificial animals, goods and passenger-laden trucks, bus, pickup-vans and other modes of local vehicles for the tailback.
