6 killed, 35 injured in Rangpur road accident

At least six people were killed and 35 others injured as two speedy buses collided head-on on Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Baldipukur under Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur Sunday morning.

The deceased include five males and a baby but their identities could not be known immediately, said Mithapukur police officer-in-charge Md Zakir Hossain.

He said that a Rangpur-bound bus of Selfi Paribahan from Dhaka and a Dhaka-bound bus of Joana Paribahan from Rangpur collided head-on at about 7:15am at Baldipukur area and both the buses skidded off the road.

The accident left six spot dead and other passengers of the buses injured, he said.

‘We sent eight to ten of the injured passengers to hospital in serious condition,’ OC Zakir said.

Rangpur fire service and civil defence deputy assistant director AKM Shamsuzzoha said that they found that the distance between the two buses that faced the accident was at least 200 meters.

The actual reason of the accident could not be known immediately, he said.
