Country logs 225 more deaths

Covid cases in Bangladesh surge past 11 lakh as 11,578 more cases were reported in 24 hours until Sunday morning.

The country also logged an additional 225 daily deaths from the viral disease in the timeline amid the ongoing relaxation of Covid restrictions on public movement ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 17,894 and infections to 11,03,989.

Among the deceased, 123 are male and 102 female patients.

A Directorate General of Health Services release confirmed the statistics.

The daily test positivity rate is 29.90 per cent.

A total of 39,806 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 638 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 72,55,387 samples as of July 18.

In the timeline, 8,845 recovered from the viral disease during the timeline totalling the recovery to 932,008.

A total of 180 died in public hospitals, 32 in private hospitals and 13 died at their homes, according to the government statistics.

Among the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death of 60 people while 54 died in Khulna, 40 in Chattogram, 20 in Rajshahi, nine Barishal, and 14 each in Rangpur, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions.

Besides death of Covid patients, reports received from different districts of the country said that a good number of patients had died with Covid symptoms at the Covid units in hospitals there.

Reports received from Khulna, Rajshahi, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Barishal, Chattogram, Satkhira, Cumilla and Mymensingh said that a total of 130 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the district in 24 hours till Sunday morning.

Of the deceased, 72 were Covid positive patients and 58 had Covid symptoms.

Among the deceased, one aged more than 100 years, two from 91 to 100 years, 13 from 81 to 90 years, 35 from 71 to 80 years, 64 from 61 to 70 years, 52 from 51 to 60 years, 31 from 41 to 50 years, 16 from 31 to 40 years, seven from 21 to 30 years, three aged from 11 to 20 years, and one aged from 0 to 10years, said the DGHS release.
