Bangladesh logs highest daily Covid death of 231

Bangladesh logged the highest daily Covid deaths of 231 people in 24 hours until Monday morning since it had recorded the first death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.

The country also logged an additional 13,321 daily cases from the viral disease in the timeline amid the ongoing relaxation of Covid restrictions on public movement ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 18,125 and infections to 11,17,310.

Among the deceased, 136 are male and 95 female patients.

A Directorate General of Health Services release confirmed the statistics.

A total of 45,012 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 638 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 73,00,399 samples as of July 19.

In the timeline, 9,335 recovered from the viral disease during the timeline totalling the recovery to 941,343.

A total of 167 died in public hospitals, 46 in private hospitals and 18 died at their homes, according to the government statistics.

Among the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death of 73 people while 57 died in Khulna, 43 in Chattogram, 16 in Rajshahi, six Barishal, and eight in Sylhet, 17 in Rangpur, and 11 died in Mymensingh divisions.

Among the deceased, four from 91 to 100 years, 17 from 81 to 90 years, 44 from 71 to 80 years, 74 from 61 to 70 years, 43 from 51 to 60 years, 33 from 41 to 50 years, nine from 31 to 40 years, six from 21 to 30 years, and one aged from 11 to 20 years, said the DGHS release.

Besides death of Covid patients, reports received from different districts of the country said that a good number of patients had died with Covid symptoms at the Covid units in hospitals there.

Reports received from Khulna, Rajshahi, Kushtia, Chattogram, Satkhira and Mymensingh said that a total of 70 more patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the district in 24 hours till Monday morning.

Of the deceased, 40 were Covid positive patients and 30 had Covid symptoms, according to the reports.
