Bangladesh witnesses 200 Covid deaths

Bangladesh logged 200 more Covid deaths and an additional 11,579 cases in 24 hours ending Tuesday morning.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 18,325 and infections to 11,28,889 since the country reported first Covid case and death in March 2020.

The daily test positivity rate is 29.31 per cent, showed the daily update of the Directorate General of Health Services.

Among the deceased, 111 are male and 89 female are patients.

Total 39,510 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 639 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 73,39,909 samples as of July 20.

In the past cases in 24 hours, 9,997 more people recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 951,340.

A total of 164 Covid patients died in public hospitals, 30 in private hospitals and six died at their homes in the past 24 hours, according to the government statistics.

In cases of the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death of 51 people followed by 50 in Khulna, 49 in Chattogram, 12 each in Rajshahi and Rangpur, 11 in Sylhet, eight in Mymensingh and seven in Barishal divisions.

Among the deceased, one patient was from 91 to 100 years of age, eight from 81 to 90 years, 35 from 71 to 80 years, 62 from 61 to 70 years, 48 from 51 to 60 years, 27 from 41 to 50 years, 12 from 31 to 40 years, six from 21 to 30 years, and one was aged between 11 and 20 years, said the DGHS release.

In cases of the daily test positivity rate the highest rate was recorded at 36.52 per cent in Chattogram division followed by 35.39 per cent in Barishal, 35.09 per cent in Sylhet, 29.09 per cent in Khulna, 28.59 per cent in Dhaka, 24.17 per cent in Rangpur, 23.49 per cent in Mymensingh and 21.06 per cent in Rajshahi divisions.

Over 40 per cent daily test positivity rate was recorded in the time in some districts including Munshiganj [49.16 per cent], Faridpur [ 45.28 per cent], Gazipur [ 43.83 per cent], Feni [ 42.91 per cent], Cumilla [ 42.22 per cent], Rangpur [ 41.69 per cent], Bandarban [ 41.42 per cent] and in Barishal [ 40.27 per cent].

Besides the death of Covid patients, reports received from different districts of the country said that a good number of patients had died with Covid symptoms at the Covid units in hospitals there.

Reports received from Tangail, Barishal and Satkhira districts said that a total of 30 more patients died at the Covid units of hospitals and with symptoms in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

Of the deceased, five were Covid positive patients and 25 had Covid symptoms, according to the reports.
