6 Rohingyas among 7 killed in Cox’s Bazar landslides, heavy rain

Seven people including six Rohingyas were killed in landslides and heavy rain at Balukhali Rohingya camp under Ukhiya and Monirghona area under Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district on Monday.

The deceased in the landslides were Dil Bahar,25, wife of Mohammad Yusuf, their son Abdur Rahman, 3, and one-year old daughter Ayesa Begum of Block G/38 of camp number 10 of Balukhali and Noor Barhar, 42, wife of Saha Alam, their son Safiul Alam, 9, of Block-G/37, camp number 10 of Balukhali.

Besides, an unknown child was drowned in the flash flood at camp number 18 of Balukhali under Ukhiya police station of the district.

Besides, two other children Noor Fateman,14, and Jane Alam, 3, were injured in the incidents.

Additional refugee, relief and repatriation commissioner Md Samsuzzoha confirmed the information.

The landslides occurred on the top of the hill of camp number 10 of Balokhali under Ukhiya due to heavy rain, he said.

Mohammad Jahangir, a volunteer of CPP working at Refugees camp told reportetrs that that two houses on the top of hill at Balukhali were totally damaged in the landslide at about 10:00am on Tuesday.

Locals, CPP volunteers and members of APBn’s rushed to the spot and rescued all of them from under mats. Five were killed on the spot.

Besides, Rakim Ali, 60, of Monirghona under Hoykong union under Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar died due to wall collapse during the heavy rain, said inspector Hasibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station.
