Covid deaths surge past 20,000 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh logged 237 deaths and 16,230 cases in 24 hours ending Wednesday morning.

With this, the death toll hits 20,016 and cases 12,10,982.

The daily test positivity rate is 30.12per cent.

Among the deceased, 149 are male and 88 female are patients.

A total of 53,877 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 639 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 76,12, 588 samples as of July 28.

In the past 24 hours, 13,470 patients recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 10,35,884.

Of the deceased, 167 died in public hospitals, 57 in private hospitals and 13 died at their homes, according to the government statistics.

In divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death toll of 70 people followed by 62 in Chattogram, 34 in Khulna, 16 in Rangpur, nine in Barishal, 21 in Rajshahi, seven in Mymensingh and 18 in Sylhet divisions.

Reports received from Khulna, Rajshahi, Kushtia, Barishal, Chattogram, Satkhira and Tangail. said that at least 69 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the districts in 24 hours ending Tuesday morning.

Of the deceased, 39 were Covid positive patients and 30 had Covid symptoms, according to the reports.
