32 lakhs to be vaccinated on Aug 7-12

The health ministry announced a plan of vaccinating 32 lakhs people through an extended vaccination campaign from August 7.

The campaign would prioritise vaccinating elderly population, women and people with disabilities and people in areas hard to reach.

‘The government decided to cover a larger population with vaccine protection as Covid-19 cases surged,’ said ABM Khurshid Alam, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, at a press briefing in the morning.

‘We plan to vaccinate 32 lakhs people during the campaign,’ he said.

People aged 25 years and above can get vaccinated by showing their identity card during the first day of the campaign on August 7 at their respective union parishad, municipality and city corporation.

On the second and third day of the campaign, on August 8 and 9, people can get vaccinated at regular vaccination centres showing their NIDs and at some municipality wards.

In remote and hard to reach areas the vaccination campaign would run from August 8 to 9.

The campaign would continue at city corporations between August 7 and 9.

Members of Rohingya refugee community aged 55 years and above will get vaccinated from August 10 to 12.

The vaccination campaign will run with China’s Sinopharm vaccine.

The announcement for the nationwide vaccination campaign came as the official confirmation of the government backtracking on its previous announcement of vaccinating 1 crore people in a week from August 7.

The DGHS requested people registered under regular vaccination programme not to crowd the special vaccination centres to be set up under the extended vaccination programme.

The DGHS asked them to get their jabs from regular vaccination centres.
