Bangladesh Covid deaths surge past 22,000 mark

The Covid death toll in Bangladesh surged past 20,000 mark with an additional death of 248 more people in 24 hours until Friday morning.

The country also logged 12,606 fresh Covid cases in the timeline.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 22,150 and infections to 13,35,260 since it had recorded the first Covid infection on March 8, 2020, and death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.

The daily test positivity rate is 26.25per cent.

Among the deceased, 138 are male and 110 female are patients.

The Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics on its daily Covid press release.

A total of 48,015 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 705 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 80,43,693 samples as of August 6.

In the past 24 hours, 15,494 patients recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 11,72,437.

In case of the divisions, Chattogram logged the highest death toll of 75, Dhaka logged 69deaths, Khulna 36, Barishal 20, 16 each died in Rajshahi and Sylhet and eight each died in Rangpur and Mymensingh of the viral disease.

Reports received from Mymensingh, Khulna, Rajshahi, Kushtia, Barishal, Chattogram, and Tangail said that a total of 105 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the districts in in 24 hours till Friday morning.

Of the deceased, 63 were Covid patients, 40 had symptoms and two others had post-Covid complications.
