Rupganj fire tragedy: 21 more charred bodies handed over to families

The authorities have handed over the remains of 21 bodies of the workers, who died in the Hashem Foods Ltd factory fire at Rupganj of Narayanganj on July 8, to their families on Saturday.

The charred bodies were released from 12pm to 1pm after the forensic unit of the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) identified 45 out of 48 deceased workers through DNA analysis.

However, CID is yet to confirm the identities of three more bodies.

Officials said that it was taking them longer to identify these victims because their bodies had been completely burnt in the fire.

Of the bodies, 24 were released on August 4.

Those whose bodies were handed over on Saturday are – Mahmuda Akhter, Santa Moni, Mahbubur Rahman, Jihad Rana, Rahima Akhter, Mina Khatun, Md Noman, Amena Akhter, Rahima, Rabia Akhter, Md Akash Mia, Md Nazmul Hossain, Kalpana Rani Barman, Swapan Mia, Shefali Rani Sarkar, Amrita Begum, Md Shamim, Selina Akhter, Taslima Akhter, Fakima Akhter, and Md Hasnain.

Narayanganj district administration gave Tk25,000 to the families of each victim for holding the funerals.
