Court rejects Babul Akter’s bail petition

A Chattogram court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition filed by the lawyer of former police officer Babul Akter, the prime accused of the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.

Judge Shafi Uddin of metropolitan magistrate court passed the order after a virtual hearing, said Babul’s lawyer Muhammad Ajmul Huda.

The lawyer said that they filed a petition seeking bail in the murder case. They would go for the next step for securing bail after discussing with Babul’s family, he added.

Babul Akter was in Chattogram Central Jail from May 12 to May 29 and later was taken to Feni jail.

Mitu was stabbed and shot to death on June 5, 2016 when she was walking her son to his school bus stop at the port city’s GEC crossing.

Former police officer Babul Akter filed a case in 2016 after the murder.

PBI submitted final report on May 12 in the case filed by Babul Akter in 2016 after the murder as the investigators found ‘Babul Akter’s involvement in Mitu murder’ after five years of investigation.

Babul Akter turned into as the prime accused from the plaintiff in his wife’s murder case as Mitu’s father Mosharaf Hossain filed a fresh case on May 12, 2021 over the murder.

The other accused in the case are Kamrul Islam Sikdar alias Musa, 40, Ehteshamul Hoque alias Haniful Hoque alias Bhola, 41, Md Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, 27, Md Anwar Hossain, 28, Md Khairul Islam alias Kalu, 28, Md Saidul Islam Sikder alias Saku, 45, and Shahjahan Mia, 28.
