Covid death toll in Bangladesh surges past 23,000

Covid death toll surges past 23,000 in Bangladesh as the country recorded an additional Covid death of 264 more people in 24 hours until Tuesday morning.

The country also recorded 11,164 fresh cases in during the timeline.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 23,161 and infections to 13,76,322 since it had recorded the first Covid infection on March 8, 2020, and death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.

The daily test positivity rate is 23.54 per cent.

Among the deceased, 154 are male and 110 female are patients.

The Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics on its daily Covid press release.

A total of 47,424 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 707 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 82,12,041 samples as of August 10.

In the past 24 hours, 14,903 patients recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 12,34,762.

In case of the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death toll of 92 and Chattogram logged 60 deaths.

Reports received from Rajshahi, Khulna, Kushtia, Barishal, Chattogram, Tangail and Mymensingh said that a total of 69 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the districts in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

Of the deceased, 36 were Covid patients and 33 had symptoms.
