Bishwajit murder: Fugitive convict arrested in Faridpur

Police have arrested one of the fugitive convicts of the 2012 Bishwajit Das murder case, who was sentenced to life-term imprisonment, has been arrested from Faridpur’s Sadarpur upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Imran Hossain from Char Bishnupur area in the upazila at around 10:30pm on Tuesday, Sadarpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Subrata Goldar confirmed.

He is scheduled to be produced before the court on Wednesday, said the OC.

On December 9, 2012, Bishwajit Das, a tailor by profession, was hacked to death near Bahadur Shah Park in Dhaka, by members of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party.

The Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 4 gave its verdict in the murder case on December 18, 2013. Of the 21 accused, eight were sentenced to death and 13 to life imprisonment.

The convicts sentenced to death were Rafiqul Islam, Mahfuzur Rahman, Rasheduzzaman, Imdadul Haque, Qayyum Mia, Saiful Islam, Rajan Talukder (fugitive) and Noor Alam (fugitive).

HM Kibria, Golam Mostafa, Khandaker Yunus Ali, Monirul Haque, Tariq Bin Johar, Alauddin, Obaidul Quader, Imran Hossain, Azizur Rahman, Al Amin Sheikh, Rafiqul Islam (2), Kamrul Hasan and Mosharraf Hossain were sentenced to life imprisonment.

All of them are on the run except HM Kibria and Golam Mostafa.
