Bangladesh to reopen all transports, tourist centres on August 19

Bangladesh government on Thursday announced that all transports on roads, rail and waterways would be allowed to operate from August 19.

It would also allow to reopen tourist centres, community centres, resorts and entertainment centres with half of its capacity.

The Cabinet Division issued a circular to the effect.

The government earlier allowed to resume business activities and public transport services from August 11, easing the restrictions that began on July 23 to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.

Public transports were allowed to operate with passengers in all seats, but the authorities were asked to allow half of the buses on a particular route to discourage inter-district travel in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Road transport owners, however, protested at the government decision and demanded that all buses on a route should be allowed at a time to avoid public gatherings.
