Covid-19: Rajshahi hospital counts nine deaths in 24 hours

Another nine people have died at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the 24 hours to 8am Thursday, taking the death toll at the hospital to 179.

Confirming the matter, RMCH Director Brig Gen Dr Shamim Yazdani said among the newly deceased, five had tested positive for Covid-19, three exhibited the symptoms, and one had post-Covid complications.

One of the deceased was a resident of Rajshahi district, two from Pabna, one from Natore, two from Naogaon, one from Kushtia, one from Meherpur and one from Chapainawabganj, he said.

Four of the deceased were male and five were females. Three of them were aged above 61 years, two between 51 and 60, four between 41 and 50.

Some 37 more patients were admitted to the designated Covid wards of the hospital afresh between Wednesday and Thursday mornings. With the latest tally, the number of patients currently undergoing treatment at the Covid unit of the RMCH is 342.

Another 20 patients are admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital..

On Wednesday, 762 samples were tested at two laboratories in Rajshahi, of which 143 came out positive. On this day, 255 people from Rajshahi were tested of which 73 were coronavirus positive, at the rate of 28.63%.

The latest single-day test-positivity rate has decreased 0.17%; the daily infection rate was 23.1% on Tuesday, 3.10% on Monday, 27.25% on Sunday, 34.63% on Saturday, 30.21% on Friday, 23.82% on Thursday and 23.83 % on Wednesday.
