Covid-19: Rajshahi hospital records 13 death in a day

Thirteen more deaths were recorded in the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the 24 hours to Friday morning.

Five out of the 13 had tested positive for the virus, seven died with symptoms and one died after testing negative.

Seven of the deceased were aged above 61, four between 51-60, one between 41-50 and one between 21-30, said RMCH Director Shamim Yazdani told Dhaka Tribune.

According to him, in the last 24 hours, 40 people were admitted to the coronavirus unit while 44 returned home after testing negative.

The hospital is currently treating 325 patients, out of whom 20 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he said.

Currently, 179 in the unit are confirmed cases while 87 are admitted with symptoms. Moreover, 59 are being treated for post-recovery complications.

Yazdani said that even though infection rate has slightly gone down in Rajshahi and Natore, Chapainawabganj has seen a surge in cases.

Among the 70 samples collected from the district on Thursday, 16 tested positive with an infection rate of 22.86%, up by 2.65 percentage points than the previous.
