Universities to be reopened after October 15

The University Grants Commission on Thursday said that the public and private universities in Bangladesh are going to be reopened after October 15 in phases.

The decision was taken at a meeting among senior officials of the Education Ministry, UGC, and vice-chancellors of public and private universities.

UGC member professor Muhammed Alamgir told New Age that education minister Dipu Moni at the meeting said that all public and private universities would be reopened in phases after October 15.

At that time the universities would be allowed to reopen residential halls, he said.

‘The authorities of the universities are asked to submit the ministry lists of vaccinated teachers, staff and students,’ he said.

Muhammed Alamgir also said that the students who did not get vaccines would be inoculated by September 2021.

All educational institutions have remained closed since March 18, 2020, following the detection of Covid cases in the country on March 8 of the same year.
