7 BNP activists held after scuffle with police in Chattogram

The police in Chattogram arrested at least seven activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party after the latter had allegedly scuffled with the police at Nur Ahmed Road on Thursday afternoon.

The scuffle took place when the BNP activists were heading for Kotwali area to attend a scheduled programme on the occasion of the party’s founding anniversary.

Witnesses said that the BNP activists were going to attend the programme, organised by Chattogram city unit of BNP, with a rally allegedly blocking the road at about 3:00pm.

When the police tried to remove them from the road they engaged in scuffling with the police. Later, the police charged batons on the BNP activists.

Mohammad Nezam Uddiin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, told New Age that they detained seven persons at the spot after the scuffle.

Additional police forces were deployed in the area, he said.
