Couple drowns in Naogaon's Atrai River

Divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence on Monday recovered the bodies of a couple who drowned in Atrai River in Mohadevpur upazila, Naogaon 18 hours after they went missing.

Parvez Hossain, 22, and his wife Mini Akter Soma,18, went missing while bathing in the river in Ramchandrapur under Khajur union on Sunday afternoon.

Mohadevpur police station OC Azam Uddin Mahmud confirmed that the divers pulled their bodies from the river around 9:30am Monday some 500 yards from where they had gone missing.

He said the two deceased were visiting a relative in the area.

After they went missing in the river, locals, police and Fire Service divers had started the rescue efforts. Efforts were paused for the night later in the evening on Sunday. Their bodies were eventually found on Monday morning.

Their remains will be handed over to the families following the legal protocol, added the OC.
