Bashundhara MD seeks anticipatory bail in college student rape, murder case

Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir has sought anticipatory bail from the High Court in the case filed over rape and murder of a college student in a flat at Dhaka's Gulshan in April this year.

He recently filed the petition with the HC through lawyer Hassan Imam, Assistant Attorney General Md Mizanur Rahman told.

HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol is scheduled to hold hearing of the petition on September 29.

Contacted, lawyer Hassan Imam refused to talk to this correspondent on this issue.

The accused petitioner, who seeks anticipatory bail from the HC, has to appear in person before the bench concerned during the hearing, HC sources said.

On April 26, police recovered the body of a 21-year-old college student hanging from the ceiling fan of her bedroom in a Gulshan flat.

On September 6, victim's elder sister filed the case with a Dhaka court against Anvir over rape and murder of the college student.

Chairman of the group Ahmed Akbar Sobhan alias Shah Alam and six others were also made accused in the case on charge of abetting the crime.

The six other accused are: Shah Alam's wife Afroza Begum, Anvir's wife Sabrina Sayem, model Faria Mahbub Piyasha, Saifa Rahman Mim, the Gulshan flat's landlord Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon and his wife Sharmim.

Victim's elder sister filed the case with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 of Dhaka.
