Five more students test Covid positive in Thakurgaon school

At least five students tested positive for coronavirus in a school in Thakurgaon. Of them, two were fourth-graders while the rest three were fifth-graders.

The two classes of Bahadurpara Government Primary School in sadar upazila have been suspended following the incident.

Samples of the students were collected on September 19. Later, the reports came on Wednesday.

Following the reports, the local administration suspended activities of the two classes. However, the other classes are going on as usual.

Farhana Parvin, headmistress of the school, said the students attended classes as school reopened after 17 months following the government order.

There are 426 students in the school and of them, 84 are in Class IV and 74 in Class V.

The headmistress said the students had been attending classes till September 16. Later, when the students showed symptoms of Covid-19, they contacted the Thakurgaon Sorkari Balika Shisu Poribar authorities and sent the students’ samples for test.

These underprivileged students are residing at the Thakurgaon Sorkari Balika Shisu Poribar.

The five students developed Covid-19 symptoms on Sunday. Later, on September 22, the test reports confirmed the infection.

The deputy superintendent of Thakurgaon Sorkari Balika Shisu Poribar Rikta Banu said, ‘On September 16, a student of Hajipara Adarsh ​​High School in the city contracted cold and fever. After that, five more students of that government primary school got cold and fever.

From Monday to Wednesday, the Thakurgaon Sorkari Balika Shisu Poribar authorities sent samples of 25 students to Thakurgaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital for testing. Covid was identified in five primary school students and six secondary school students.

Rikta Banu said, ‘Now fourteen students infected with the coronavirus are being treated separately. Total sixty-five female students are residing in Thakurgaon Sorkari Balika Shisu Poribar, she added.

Upazila assistant primary education officer Mamtaz Ferdous said, ‘When the five students of Bahadurpara Government Primary School were infected by coronavirus, the matter was brought to the senior officials concerned. Later, as per the instructions of the senior officials, classes IV and V of the school had been asked to be suspended for one week from last Wednesday.

Confirming the matter, Thakurgaon civil surgeon Mahfuzur Rahman said the infected students were kept in isolation.

Meanwhile, he urged all to maintain health rules to contain Covid-19.
