DU set up NID registration camp for students

The Dhaka University authorities on Thursday started seven-day National Identity Card Registration Camp for their students to get NID card faster.

On Thursday morning, Dhaka University vice-chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the programme at the University’s Teacher-Student Centre.

The DU VC said that the initiative had been taken with an aim to provide special identity cards to the students of Dhaka University.

‘We requested the authorities concerned and they have arranged it. The conditions of obtaining a national identity card have also been simplified in many cases. They are issuing national identity cards with information from university students through special forms,’ he said.

Students who do not have an NID card need to go to the Election Commission’s web link (service.nidw.gov.bd/new voter) and fill up the registration form on the condition that they will be a voter at their current address and the same address as the current address.

The completed form should be printed and the name, title and seal and signature of the resident teacher of the hall should be taken in place of the identifier and verifier.

Later, they have to go to the link (ssl.du.ac.bd/student login) and log in with the student’s academic e-mail, go to the ‘Register for NID’ section on the dashboard and follow the next step to provide the required information.

After that when the date of arrival at the voter registration center comes through SMS, students have to be present at the booths with the required documents.

The director general of the Election Commission Humayun Kabir, pro vice-chancellor (Administration) Professor Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Professor Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary of the DU Teachers Association Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, Proctor Professor AKM Golam Rabbani and among others also were present in the programme.
