Chattogram airport employee arrested with 80 gold bars

Authorities on Saturday arrested an employee of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport with 80 pieces of gold bars worth Tk 5.36 crore.

The arrested was identified as Md Belal Uddin, 35, a security department employee of the airport, said officials.

The Customs intelligence authorities arrested Belal Uddin with the help of National Security Intelligence with 80 pieces of gold bars at 9:00am, an Md Taiyabur Rahman, revenue officer of Chattogram customs.

During primary interrogation, Belal Uddin admitted that the gold bars were coming from the United Arab Emirates by a flight BG 148 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, he said.

However, Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport director wing commander Forhad Hossain Khan could not be reached for his comment in this regard.

A security official of the airport told New Age that Belal Uddin was a temporary employee at the airport. His job as a security department employee was made permanent in 2015.
