12-kg LPG cylinder price increased to Tk 1259

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission on Sunday increased the price of a 12-kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas to Tk 1,259 from Tk 1,033 citing increase in international market price.

‘The price will take effect immediately,’ said BERC chairman Abdul Jalil at a press conference after announcing the new price.

The price of a 12-kg bottle of LPG produced by the state-owned LP Gas Limited has remained unchanged at Tk 591.

The price of per litre of LPG used in vehicles was increased to Tk 58.68 from Tk 50.56.

This is the first time the monthly LPG price has been fixed based on running international market price.

Ever since Bangladesh began adjusting LPG price every month keeping up with international market the BERC fixed it based on the international market price of the previous month.

Bangladesh first fixed LPG price on April 12 before which it was arbitrarily fixed by private LPG businessmen and varied between producers.

LPG is a mixture of propane and butane, which are mostly imported. Locally produced LPG meets only 2 per cent of the demand.

Bangladesh consumes over a million tonnes of LPG annually.

BERC chairman Abdul Jalil hoped that the price fixed by them would be implemented by the private LPG companies.
