Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has shut down 178 unregistered news portals.
The process of shutting down the portals started from yesterday.
Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar told The Daily Star, "We received a list of unregistered news portals from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting last night." These are supposed to be closed yesterday.
"We have been instructed by the High Court to shut down unregistered portals," he said.
Only those on the list given to them by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as unregistered portals were shut down, he added.
