DU teachers form human chain protesting communal attacks

The Dhaka University Teachers' Association formed a human chain in front of Aparajeyo Bangla today -- protesting the recent communal attacks in several parts of the country.

The human chain was formed at 11am.

At the human chain, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman said, "Bangladesh is a country of religious harmony. Everyone here practices their own religion, but festivals are shared by all."

"Bangladesh's Durga Puja celebration is a model for the entire world. This festival is open to people of all religions," he said.

"The rise of communal evil in various parts of the country is disgraceful and cannot be tolerated. We demand that the government immediately identify the perpetrators," he added.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University, Prof Mijanur Rahman, said, "Communal violence is not an isolated incident. However, no such attack ever receives justice. When these incidents occur, thousands of people are charged, but later, the offenders get away with it. We demand that those responsible for these incidents receive exemplary punishment."
