HC orders judicial probes into attacks on Hindus in 6 dists

The High Court on Thursday ordered judicial inquiries into the attacks on the Hindus and their temples and houses in six districts between October 13 and October 18.

The HC also asked the chief metropolitan magistrates and chief judicial magistrates of the districts to submit separate inquiry reports to it in 60 days.

The HC in a rule on the government asked to explain in four weeks as to why its inaction and failure in protecting the lives of the Hindu people, their houses and properties would not be declared illegal.

An online bench of judges Mozibur Rahman Miah and Kamrul Hossain Mollah issued the directives after hearing a public interest litigation writ petition filed by two Supreme Court lawyers - Anup Kumar Saha and Mintu Chandra Das on October 21.

On October 13, a Cumilla resident Iqram Hossain called 999 to report that a Quran was found at a Durga puja mandap .

Several temples and Durga puja mandaps were vandalised as tension mounted after the video went viral.

Many shared the video calling for attacks on Hindu sites on allegations of sacrilege.

Police later said that they collected CCTV footages and claimed that a young man in Cumilla namely Iqbal Hossain had kept the Quran in the Durga puja mandap in Cumilla
