A devastating fire killed five sleeping workers of a shoe factory in Dhaka’s Swarighat in the early hours on Friday, fire service said.
The incident happened around 1:15 am at Rafiq Shoe Factory at Kamalbagh area of Swarighat in the Old Dhaka, fire service duty officer Rashed bin Khaled told.
He said eight units of fire services brought the fire under control around 3:00 am.
All five victims, who are male, died of suffocation with a cloud of smoke blocking their exits, he said.
The reason for the fire could not be known immediately.
